Deuteronomy 28:8 - Increasing Your Storehouse

Step 1: Pray. Select.

Today, as I started my prayer time, I couldn't believe how many distractions came my way. Clearly, there was an attempt to block this message and take me off course. So, I dug my heels in harder to the word, knowing God is greater than any circumstance.

The words "home" and "house" kept coming to mind while I patiently waited through the distractions to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. I was finally led to Deuteronomy 28:8. This scripture warns the believer to be obedient to receive the blessing, or if you are disobedient, you will be cursed in any and all things God gives to you.

Let's get into it!

Step 2: Write. Read. Circle

Deuteronomy 28:8 "The Lord will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

After reading the scripture three times, the following words stood out amongst the others:

  • The LORD Will Command

  • Which You Set Your Hand

  • Which The LORD Your God Is Giving You

Step 3: Re-Write

Adding my name to the front and with a focus on the words that stood out, here is the sentence(s) I came up with for today:

  • Jennifer, the LORD will command, which you set your hand, which the LORD your God is giving you.

Step 4: Visualize

Sometimes, we get nervous about what God is giving us to steward.

At times, I have had promotions I did not feel ready for or worthy of, but I pushed through on faith. I understand now that God has commanded me going forward, as long as I am obedient to him and he is in charge, to place my hand out confidently to receive whatever he tells me because that is what he is giving.

There is not one part of this word or the sentence he gave me today where I am in control. He is the giver, and what he gives, he will instruct me and my hands to tend and grow for him.

The song "I Give Myself to You" is coming to mind. I haven't thought of this song in years. The words, specifically, "My life is not my own, to you I belong. I give myself, I give myself, to you," are repeating in my mind as I meditate on this word. He is telling me that in the next phase of practicing to hear him, I must go deeper and completely surrender to make room for what he has to give. He will only increase my storehouse to make room for his blessings - not stuff, which I think I need. The things I might pick up without his instruction along the way.

He tells me that your home reflects your heart and mind. What does it say about you? Are you consumed by your own agenda? Is there space for God and his presence? He is talking about the physical home and your spiritual home or body.

John 14:2-3 keeps coming to mind as well: 2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

This encompasses the very principle he is trying to get through this morning. He is preparing a way for us, so are we doing the same for him daily?

Look around today and be hypervigilant to answer this question. Do you have room for God to give you something he has for you today?

Examine all the places God can inhabit: your heart, your mind, your house, your body, your work, and the list goes on. Basically, wherever you return to regularly, which may be habitual or routine, see how you can make way for God to fill the space.

Step 5: Ask. Seek

The main question(s) that came to mind were:

  • Holy Spirit, out of all the places where I store things as a home, which home do you need to clean out most?

Step 6: Hear. Write. Receive

"The mind. You are obedient by making time with me daily to give you peace, but I need you to go deeper. The reason is that things will come up daily to distract you from my will, your daily assignment, or your daily bread, but the urgent cannot overtake the important. I know what you need to build and keep in your storehouse for the harvest ahead. But you must trust me, even when it doesn't make sense. You know the verse, Jeremiah 29:11 - for I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you, and not to harm you, like the back of your hand. But do you really believe without a doubt I REALLY KNOW? Clear away the doubtful thoughts and do not speak of them anymore. They take up time in your day, and there is no room for that. You cannot see what I see. Follow my voice obediently and without fear, trust I am who I say I am."

Step 7: Pray. Confirm

Father God, help me to tame this part of my flesh and cut away doubt once and for all. I will stay on watch for your signal to move when you say move.

Whatever you hand me increase my storehouse and capabilities to rise to any occasion you place in front of me to pick up.

Use me in whatever way you see fit. I give myself to you - AMEN!

Conclusion:

God has something coming you need to fully prepare for. There is no room for doubt.

We need to believe what God says is truth and remove doubt. If he said it, he will do it, and he will give us everything we need to receive and steward it.

May God increase your storehouses today, friends, so you can receive all the giver has to give!

See you tomorrow!
