Deuteronomy 30:15-16 - Five Seeds To Possess and Live In The Land
Step 1: Pray. Select.
Today, as I sat looking at the trees in my backyard, I thought about the balance of nature and how the LORD shows us life and death every day in creation all around us.
As I began to ask the Holy Spirit to lead me to scripture with such balance, I came across Deuteronomy 30:15-16.
This is where we begin our journey today, friends.
Step 2: Write. Read. Circle
After reading the scripture three times, the following words stood out amongst the others:
Deuteronomy 30:15-16 - "See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess."
Step 3: Re-Write
With a focus on the words I circled that stood out, here is the personalized sentence that came alive in my heart.
Jennifer, see I command you today to love the LORD, walk in His ways, keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, in the land you go to possess.
If you are doing this alongside me today, add your name in front of your unique sentence so the Lord can speak directly to you.
Step 4: Visualize
I close my eyes and focus on the sentence the Holy Spirit gave me today. I see myself standing atop a mountain overlooking a vast valley below.
There is nothing there but the land, some lush grass, and a few roaming animals, such as sheep. As I scan the valley, I notice in the distance a waterfall coming from the surrounding mountains, which also protect the valley. Prior to my arrival, there was no civilization or hint of humanity. And right now, it is just me and God.
I feel the Holy Spirit reminding me that possessing the land as God instructs is a command, not a request.
I look down and realize that my hand is in a fist, holding something. I open my palm and see five seeds.
I have been given this land; however, I must go forward and take the seeds I am carrying and plant them. The five seeds represent His direction in order to live in the land:
love the LORD
walk in His ways
keep His commandments
keep His statutes
His judgments
I realize that as I go forward, it is my duty to take the seeds I carry and plant them.
As I begin to walk toward the valley descending from the mountain top, square plots open up into what appears to be a deep black dirt hole. A warm, bright color from each of them bursts from the core of each hole like gigantic spotlights announcing the new ownership of the land.
As I walk closer, the Holy Spirit tells me to throw each command, or seed, in each hole and then bury it so that when the seed produces a tree and eventually fruit, it will please the LORD.
The Holy Spirit reminds me that though I am taking the land, I need to remember the one who gave it to me at all times. As long as I do this, my inheritance will feed generations, but if I forget even for a moment who the land and I belong to, the LORD will turn it into a desolate wasteland, causing me to flee until I come to a new land. Still, I will not own it; he will have to give this new land to someone else to steward.
A question arises, so I move to Step 5.
Step 5: Ask. Seek
The requests/questions that came to mind are:
Holy Spirit, how do I avoid the fear of accepting such a weighty gift from God?
Step 6: Hear. Write. Receive
Here is the answer I received:
"If you are afraid, do not step into the sacred place; the land God is giving you. Before you enter the land waiting for you to possess, you must check your mind, body, and spirit. You must be ready for all the things that come with the land. Your faith will be tested. Believe God is who he says he is, and know he will give you everything you need to build and expand upon what he gives to you. But if you stop or slow what he intends to do, he will move you out of the way. Eat daily from the trees he had you plant in the land, and your faith will increase, overtaking fear, which cannot live in the same place as faith. If you do this, there is no limit to what the LORD can do."
Step 7: Pray. Confirm
Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of my LORD and Savior, Christ Jesus.
Please help me fully commit to your plans and continue to carry out your ways in whatever you entrust to my hands. Your word so clearly defines the rules of how we must live in faith and not fear in Matthew 17:20:
“So Jesus said to them, ‘Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.’”
Thank you for the revelation of how to increase my land, or storehouses, for generations to come through nothing but pure faith in you, LORD. The more seeds I plant in you, the more I will be anxious for nothing.
Help me to continue examining my heart and casting my cares on you so that you can continue to bless the land you gave me.
In the mighty name of Jesus - I seal this prayer with the blood - Amen!
