Romans 11:33 - Unsearchable Ways

Step 1: Pray. Select.

I woke up this morning with uncertainty plaguing my mind. I have some tough decisions to make, which I am dreading. I seek the Holy Spirit’s advice on how to trust whichever way I travel, the LORD will light the way to keep me close to him, even if I choose wrong in the moment.

As I search for scriptures pertaining to the deep knowledge of God, I came across Romans 11:33. In fact, as I read through the entire chapter for more context, it was indeed rich with wisdom.

Here is where I began my journey today, friends. So I move to STEP 2.

Step 2: Write. Read. Circle

After reading the scripture three times, the following words stood out amongst the others:

Romans 11:33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!

Step 3: Re-Write

With a focus on the words I circled that stood out, here is the personalized sentence that came alive in my heart.

  • Jennifer, the depth, the riches, the knowledge of God, unsearchable past finding out.

If you are doing this alongside me today, add your name in front of your unique sentence so the Lord can speak directly to you.

Step 4: Visualize

As I meditate on my verse of the day, as well as the sentence given to me by the Holy Spirit, I picture deep waters as I stand at the top of a cliff looking downward. The waters are a crystal turquoise blue. However, some parts look black. I logically know the light blue parts I see are the shallow areas where the light from the sun shines in, and the reflection of the light that hits the white sand or rocks lying on the ocean floor can shine back at me. It is also the area where small fish and creatures bask in the warmth of the sun's rays, safe in shallow waters from larger predators.

However, it is the black that I am curious about. How deep does the water go, where things enter, but if we go too far down into certain depths, we may not return. There is only one who knows the depths beneath the waters, and that is the Lord.

The Holy Spirit reminds me of my verse today. The Lord's ways are unsearchable, past finding out. What I believe the Holy Spirit is trying to tell me is that the only way for him to reveal the depths of the water that lie beneath in the deepest parts of the ocean is to ask the source that created them. He wants me to know that he is asking me to seek his knowledge and trust that he will not tell a lie. He asks me to trust that the things he reveals must come from asking from a faith posture, since I am not created to live in the depths of such wisdom. It is too great to bear. He protects me, does not punish me. He assigns me and does not withhold from me.

The Holy Spirit warns of being hypnotized by things that are not meant for me to understand. The snake took advantage of Eve through this deception of making her think she needed to know all. The Holy Spirit warns - Do not be conformed to the ways of the world, but be renewed in the mind. He asks, “Why do you stare into a place you cannot go? Places I have kept you safe from. Look for me. I will wave you in a direction that you should travel with a boat to land on safe ground. Again, I say look for me and I will reveal all the beautiful things I have in store waiting for you in a promised land.”

I have a question for the Holy Spirit, so I move to Step 5.

Step 5: Ask. Seek

The requests/questions that came to mind are:

  • Holy Spirit, why do I focus on the things that may get me off course or off the path of your will?

Step 6: Hear. Write. Receive

Here is the answer I received:

“The enemy wants you to be tired, so he tempts you with distraction. The enemy takes, and I give. If you feel drained or worried when thinking about your future, you have fallen into a trap. You have been mesmerized by the sea instead of focusing on me. I know what lies beneath the waters, and I have provided a way to take you to your promised land, but you must focus on me. If I created you to be a sailor or even a scientist or oceanographer, then I understand you spending time pondering the depths of this area. But if I have gifted you somewhere else, then go to the place where you can contribute your portion, and in return, I will bless you. Stay your course and do not deviate. My grace is sufficient for you. So return and be grafted back to the olive tree in which you came. It is there you will find me, and I will release infinite wisdom upon you to share with others as you glorify my name in all that you do.”

Step 7: Pray. Confirm

Heavenly Father, I come to you through your mighty Son Jesus.

Thank you for reminding me that my portion is enough. Let me walk into the fullness of who you have created me to be. Let me be in awe of all the things you have created. However, let me remain focused with my eyes and ears on you, for your depth, wisdom, and understanding are greater than all I could ever imagine.

Let me contribute my part to my family, friends, and church, as iron sharpens iron, raising up an army on your behalf, grafting those lost into their inheritance. We will lack for nothing, and through you, we will rejoice in the abundance of blessings.

In Jesus's holy name, I seal this prayer with the blood of Jesus. Amen.

Conclusion:

Friends, let’s continue to keep our eyes on the one who knows things beyond our comprehension.

Let's stay on the path of the straight and narrow and be on watch for the distractions and mesmerizing tactics of the enemy as he tries to keep us under oppression.

Break free and know that God has something in store for you that is your portion and land waiting to be inhabited by you.

Stay the course, and plant your feet on solid ground, claiming the LORD’s name every step of the way.

Let us remain under his watch and protection so we can contribute to the growth of the olive tree from which we come, and if returning, will be grafted.

God bless you! See you soon.
